Starting Up GIBC

Since GIBC decided to relaunch, we wanted to create something new and valuable not only for our members, but for Glen Innes.

With this in mind we looked to those areas with active chambers and thriving regional townships like Tamworth, Mudgee, Port Macquarie and Dubbo. While each Chamber had their own objectives, events, subcommittees – what stood out most was the sense of community they created.

They weren’t just another notice board, they were actively creating innovative events, workshops and community initiatives that brought the whole business community together regardless of their industry, size or stage of the business journey.

While many believe the sole purpose of a chamber is to advocate on behalf of members, it can be so much more than that. Often Local and State government will drive Economic Growth from the “top down” by creating strategies and policies. Chambers however, have the unique ability to work with local businesses from the “bottom up” – to support, develop and inspire.

It can be as simple as good businesses attracting people and tourists to town; this results in increased demand and money spent locally; new businesses open up; the town and economy continues to grow. This means our town, our economy and our businesses prosper.

In order for this to happen, building a strong and supportive business community is a must and GIBC aims to deliver.

Our Chamber model is based on creating opportunities for Business to Business (B2B) connections through regular Member Meet Ups, providing value for our members through access to resources and by facilitating workshops, and most importantly celebrating as a community for the wins other business experience! Reintroducing the Business Awards night later this year is going to play a big part in bringing everyone together.

It might be a different way of operating a chamber than previously experienced, but if those other regional communities have anything to show for it – its going to be an exciting time for Glen Innes’ businesses.
