Committee Meetings vs Member Meet-Ups

Do you know the difference between Member Meet-Ups and Committee Meetings?

While we run both at GIBC, these events have different purposes to ensure our association runs smoothly and we provide value for our members.

Committee Meetings:

GIBC holds monthly committee meetings, exclusively for our committee members. You have probably been introduced to all our officers but just in case you haven’t you can check them out here. We are also joined each month by a representative from Glen Innes Severn Council, either Gayleen Burley, Ronnie Bombell or both!

At this committee meeting, we get together to go over the association’s admin, check in with our works in progress, plan our next event or campaign and share our ideas for the future. Every month, we review what has been achieved and what still needs to be done, and then we work together to make sure that our objectives are met.

Gayleen and Ronnie provide important updates and information about local and economic development works, business opportunities and tourism. Together we discuss and workshop innovative solutions to any problems and work collaboratively to ensure the best for our business members.

As the chamber grows, and our membership base expands, we envision our committee will also grow to include a representative from each industry sector as well as surrounding centres like Deepwater and Emmaville. This will ensure a balanced view and equal input that will benefit all our members. If this is something you would like to be involved in our AGM is held in August of each year.

Member Meet-Ups:

Our Member Meet-up events are separate to committee meetings and are designed to empower and connect our members and the business community. When joining GIBC, we asked our members what they wanted most from their memberships and over 60% mentioned connection, networking, relationships, or collaborations with other small businesses. That’s why we are focused on creating opportunities at our Member Meet-Ups for members to meet one another and get that networking and conversation flowing.

At our Meet-Ups, which rotate between local venues, you'll have the chance to meet other business owners and professionals, while also sharing your expertise and experiences. We provide a relaxed, yet professional atmosphere, so everyone can feel comfortable and make meaningful connections over some nibbles and drinks.

You can expect to find a variety of topics and themes discussed during these events from council projects and local campaigns through to business resources and marketing. Each Meet-Up begins and ends with networking and nibbles, with motivational, educational or opportunity related guest speakers in between. Ending with the opportunity to discuss and exchange contacts is the perfect way to wrap up the event and ensure that everyone has the chance to make valuable connections. If you're looking for a great way to meet local business owners and professionals, our business chamber networking events are the perfect opportunity.

So far we have hosted 2 Meet-Ups and this is just the beginning! We are so thankful to have opur member support as we continue on this journey. Again, please share any feedback and ideas for upcoming events! We are very open to your suggestions and we will take on all feedback. It’s the only way we can grow and ensure our members are happy and feel valued.
